Soffit, Fascia & Gutter Repair in Hastings-on-Hudson
Hastings-on-Hudson is a village of about 8,000 people on the Hudson River in southern Westchester, between Yonkers and Dobbs Ferry, with the Palisades across the water and a steep slope rising from the river to the village's upper streets. It was once a mill and industrial town, and its housing reflects that: rows of workers' houses near the waterfront, Victorian and Queen Anne homes on the middle slopes, and larger Tudors and Colonials above.
The terrain is the defining feature, and nearly every house sits against, cut into, or perched on a bank.
When a house is cut into a hillside, the roof on the uphill side often comes very close to the ground. A rear eave may be six or eight feet from the slope, or less, and in some cases a rear porch roof comes down to within arm's reach of the dirt. Soffit Fascia Guys inspects free across Westchester County, and on these houses the uphill eave collects everything that falls: leaves, dirt, branches, and the runoff from the hill behind.
The gutter there fills continuously, and water splashes back off the ground onto the fascia and soffit. The wood is damp from above and below. Our gutter cleaning and gutter guards keep the low runs clear, and our soffit and fascia repair replaces the boards that the damp has taken.
Being close to the ground also makes the uphill eave easy for animals and insects to reach. Squirrels walk directly onto the roof edge from the bank, and carpenter ants and termites find damp, low timber very appealing. A soffit that looks only slightly stained may have been undermined for years.
The remedy is to raise the discharge and the splash. Downspouts are routed away from the bank, splash blocks and drainage channels are set so water does not sit at the foot of the wall, and rotted trim is replaced with material that tolerates damp. Our aluminum fascia capping works well on the low edges.
The downhill side is the opposite: a tall wall, a long ladder, and a lot of exposure to the river wind. Between the two, a Hastings house can have an eave at knee height on one side and thirty feet up on the other, and the repair on each is quite a different job.
We plan for both during the free inspection and price them separately. Dobbs Ferry, Yonkers, and Tarrytown share the same Hudson-slope building pattern.
What Fails First on Hastings-on-Hudson Homes
Hastings is a hillside village, and its houses are cut into, stacked against, and perched on a steep bank. These are the four things we find first.
- Gutters at the uphill eave full of debris
The low rear roof edge collects everything that falls from the slope. The gutter stays full and spills onto the fascia.
- Fascia wet from above and below
Water splashes back off the ground onto the trim, so the board is damp on both faces and never dries.
- Insects and animals at the low edge
Carpenter ants and squirrels reach a ground-level eave easily. Damp timber attracts both.
- Unseen damage on the tall downhill wall
The opposite side may be thirty feet up and exposed to river wind. Problems there go unnoticed.
Soffit & Fascia Repair Cost in Hastings-on-Hudson
Hastings houses are mostly mid-sized, with 130 to 260 linear feet of eave and difficult access. The uphill edge is cheap to reach; the downhill wall is not. These are installed prices.
| Job | Typical Range | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Soffit repair | $350–$1,100 | Wet or stained sections replaced, sealed, ventilated |
| Low-edge gutter and fascia repair | $450–$1,800 | Cleared run, new fascia, aluminum capping, discharge rerouted |
| Fascia replacement (one elevation) | $2,000–$5,600 | New board; steep-side staging priced separately |
| Full soffit and fascia replacement | $5,500–$12,500 | Whole roofline in one visit, uphill and downhill |
Staging on the downhill wall is itemised so you can see its cost. The free inspection gives you an itemised number. See the statewide cost guide for baseline numbers.
How Hastings-on-Hudson Roofline Damage Differs from the Rest of New York
On a house on level ground, the roof edge is high and the ground is far away. On a hillside house, the uphill roof edge is almost on the ground, and it takes everything that ground sends its way.
That's why the low edge of a Hastings house often fails first. It's wetter, dirtier, and more accessible to animals than any other part of the roofline.
Mill Town Roots and a Hillside Layout
The village began as a mill town, and the rows of workers' houses near the waterfront are still there. They're compact, closely spaced, and old, which brings the usual attached-and-close-lot concerns.
Higher up, the houses are larger and more spread out. The inspection suits whichever part of the hill you live on.
